Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 38-6 win over Vista Grande (Casa Grande, Ariz.).
The Pumas put up 14 points in the opening frame. Perry scored on a
Taelon Parson touchdown run, a touchdown, a touchdown pass by
Austin Nightingale to
Trye Hatch and a touchdown.
PHS was up 31-0 at the half after taking the lead on a Parson touchdown run in the first quarter.
The Spartans' Brandon Ortega played well. The senior running back ran for one touchdown.
The Gilbert school's standout player in the win was Nightingale. The sophomore quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Vista Grande's lone touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Ortega in the third quarter.
The Pumas came in allowing an average of 20.6 points per game this season.
When the two teams played each other last season, Perry came away with a 57-7 victory.
Perry (4-2) will play a non-conference game against Poston Butte next week, while Vista Grande (1-5) will take on Marana also in a non-conference game.
