The Center Hill Mustangs won the last time they faced the South Panola Tigers, and things went their way on Thursday too. Center Hill took down the Tigers 56-39. Given Center Hill's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Tigers are ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Griffin, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Demartric Houston, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, South Panola smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 14th loss (out of 16 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Center Hill's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-11. As for South Panola, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18.
Center Hill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Grenada knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge. As for South Panola, they will be playing at home against the Conquistadors at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Olive Branch will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
