Even though the Gateway Olympians have not done well against the Far Northeast W Warriors recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Gateway enjoyed a cozy 72-56 victory over Far Northeast W. The victory was familiar territory for Gateway who now have four in a row.
Hayden Von Boeckman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Andre Romain was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Steve Griffin and Jessie Matthews certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Griffin scored 14 points along with five steals, while Matthews dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Matthews scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Devan Womley, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Gateway's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Far Northeast W, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Gateway will head out on the road to face off against Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Aurora Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. As for Far Northeast W, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Westminster at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. Westminster is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
