Astronaut hasn't had much luck against Rockledge recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The War Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Astronaut is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Astronaut fell victim to Winter Springs and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. The War Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Astronaut saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elka Koziana, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Koziana hit this season.
Meanwhile, Rockledge can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Space Coast.
Haley Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Haylie Miller and Aubrey Rhoades did most of the damage at the plate: Miller scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Rhoades scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs Miller has posted since back in March. Aiyana Sandy was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Rockledge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
Rockledge's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Astronaut, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Astronaut has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rockledge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
