The St. Joseph Knights and the Gonzaga Eagles will face off at 4:00 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Joseph comes in on ten and Gonzaga on eight.
St. Joseph and Northwood (ranked 74 and 52 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. St. Joseph was the clear victor by a 64-38 margin over Northwood. St. Joseph might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Tounde Yessoufou and Julius Price were among the main playmakers for St. Joseph as the former shot 4-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds and the latter scored 27 points along with five assists. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Yessoufou has scored at least 25% of St. Joseph's points. Another player making a difference was Ramon Cota, who scored six points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Saint John Paul the Great Catholic 100-57 at home. Considering Gonzaga has won five matchups by more than 24 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
St. Joseph's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Gonzaga, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
