5A Region III District 22 recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Dobie, who took down 461st ranked Alvin, 20-17.
The Longhorns moved up to 451 from 524 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 22. Dobie was able to make move up by besting the Yellowjackets 20-17.
Manvel's dynamic duo of Shane McCarley and Carlos Thompson proved tough for Pasadena to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McCarley threw for 353 yards and seven touchdowns and Thompson had 173 yards receiving. Reggie Hemphill helped Manvel's passing attack out by catching two balls for 125 yards.
Ahrmon McLeod was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 101 yards on six carries as Pasadena Memorial bested the Eagles. Teammate Reggie Turner added to the ground attack by rushing for 87 yards.
Manvel's McCarley and Kyrion Parker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCarley has thrown for 2298 yards this season, while Parker, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 29 catches for 693 yards. The Mavericks' Turner leads the league in rushing yards with 952.
The top two teams in 5A Region III District 22 will face off this week when first place Pearland takes on second place Pasadena Memorial. Last week, Pearland topped South Houston, while Pasadena Memorial beat Sam Rayburn.
Chris Quillian's team's Turner needs only 48 yards against the Oilers next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Mavericks take on Pearland. Pasadena Memorial has allowed 129 points this season, while Tony Heath's team has given up 43. The Mavericks allowed 13 points last week as they defeated the Texans.
Kirk Martin's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pasadena, 70-3. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
