The Corinth Holders Pirates waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They escaped with a win against South Garner by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. The win was all the more spectacular given Corinth Holders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while South Garner is ranked 45th).
Leading Corinth Holders to victory were Kamea Davis and Darla Lee. Davis scored 18 points along with nine rebounds, while Lee went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lee has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bella Stromberg, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Corinth Holders' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for South Garner, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corinth Holders will challenge Fuquay - Varina at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fuquay - Varina focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Tuesday. As for South Garner, they will head out on the road to face off against Garner at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Garner is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
