Limon has gone a perfect 5-0 against St. Mary recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Badgers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. Limon is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Limon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Wiggins on Tuesday. They lost 13-2 to the Tigers.
Brooks Scherrer was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's made easy work of Florence on Saturday and carried off a 16-5 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Bret Stewart was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Stewart was even better at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, St. Mary's let Ron Karin and Ryan Strub run wild. Karin got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Strub got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Karin has posted over his last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Velazquez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
St. Mary's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
St. Mary's has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Limon, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Limon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Limon's way against St. Mary's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Limon made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Badgers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
