The Durham Academy Cavaliers are taking a road trip to challenge the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wake Christian Academy took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Durham Academy, who comes in off a win.
Durham Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Kerr-Vance Academy with a sharp 20-4 win on Friday. The Cavaliers have beaten the Spartans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.

Zach Plavnik made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Benjamin Kuo was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Amare Burrus, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Durham Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wake Christian Academy came up short against East Bladen on Monday and fell 7-4. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wake Christian Academy also got a good showing from Nathan Winstead, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Winstead has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Trace Turner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Carter Collins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Durham Academy's record now sits at 5-12. As for Wake Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Durham Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wake Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Durham Academy suffered a grim 14-8 defeat to Wake Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
