Softball Recap: Chugiak Wins High-Profile Match Against Homer

Chugiak faced Homer in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mustangs blew past the Mariners 13-0. Considering the Mustangs have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lainey Ropp was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Dutton, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Chugiak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Homer only posted a batting average of .154.

Chugiak is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Homer, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-12.

Chugiak didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-10 win against Service on the 14th. As for Homer, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-0 loss against Bartlett on the 10th.
