The Elizabeth Minutemen waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They walked away with a 63-53 win over St. Joseph. Given Elizabeth's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while St. Joseph is ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
London Carson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Jayden Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Elizabeth has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for St. Joseph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.
Elizabeth will be playing in front of their home fans against Union at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Joseph, they will head out on the road to square off against Union City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
