After a string of three wins, the Chiefland Indians's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Newberry, falling 61-31. Chiefland was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Newberry apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Despite the loss, Chiefland saw an underclassman step up: Nyasia Bivins scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Laila Ingram was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Newberry was led to victory by Brandy Whitfield and Sarah Beaulieu. Whitfield scored 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, while Beaulieu scored 20 points along with eight steals and six assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Whitfield has scored at least 25% of Newberry's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anesty Debose, who scored five points along with five steals.
Chiefland bumped their record down to 6-5 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Newberry, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chiefland will be home for the holidays to greet Trenton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Trenton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Newberry will be home for the holidays to greet Hilliard at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hilliard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 384th, while Newberry is ranked 182nd).
