After flying high against the Omaha South Packers last Thursday, Westview came back down to earth. Westview fell 65-56 to Gretna on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Westview players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tayvin Murphy, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Tzyon Patterson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Gretna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kade Cook led the charge by scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Cook hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Alex Wilcoxson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Westview's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Gretna, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
Westview will challenge Gretna East at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gretna East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday. As for Gretna, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Papillion-LaVista South at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Papillion-LaVista South's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
