The LeRoy Panthers will face off against the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. LeRoy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
LeRoy took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Heyworth, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Hornets on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Jack Bogema spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, LeRoy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Owens, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Owens has posted over his last 13 matchups.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: LeRoy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin came tearing into Monday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Cornjerkers with a sharp 15-7 victory. Considering the Blue Devils have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
CHAZ DUBOIS made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CADEN KELEMINIC, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was MICAH STANFORD, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for LeRoy, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.
Both LeRoy and Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
