The Solon Comets will square off against the Nordonia Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Solon is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
On Friday, Solon came up short against Twinsburg and fell 7-2.
Solon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Gerhard, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Nordonia had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against Firestone on Thursday as they made off with a 23-3 win. The Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Haylie Lambes tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Morgan Ritchie was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Maddie Nyce was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
Nordonia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Solon's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Nordonia, with the victory, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-15.
Nordonia's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Solon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Nordonia, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Solon keep running through batters, or will the Knights buck the trend?
Solon got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Nordonia by a conclusive 14-8 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
