The Ponaganset Chieftains on the road again on Friday and play against the Central Falls Warriors at 6:45 p.m. on January 26th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Ponaganset is ranked 33rd, while Central Falls is ranked 25th).
Ponaganset pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Prout by a score of 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Ponaganset has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, Central Falls waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They breezed by Achievement First Providence at home to the tune of 70-28. Central Falls' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Central Falls got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamilson DePina out in front who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DePina has scored all season. Moises Maldonando was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Ponaganset's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Central Falls, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Ponaganset couldn't quite finish off Central Falls in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 55-53. Can Ponaganset avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
