Berean Christian stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 55-28 victory over Cardinal Newman at home. Given Berean Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Cardinal Newman is ranked 393rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Berean Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kalia LaBrec led the charge by scoring 16 points. LaBrec is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Hendricks, who scored 16 points.
Atlantic Christian suffered their biggest loss since November 21, 2023 on Thursday. Their rough 69-44 defeat to Monsignor Pace might stick with them for a while. Atlantic Christian's defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Berean Christian's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Atlantic Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Berean Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Atlantic Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 53-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Berean Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
