The Clear Creek Golddiggers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Front Range Christian Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Clear Creek: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Front Range Christian has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Clear Creek came into this matchup off a tough 13-run loss last Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Middle Park by a score of 7-5 on Monday.
Wyatt Huff was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Blake Weichel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Front Range Christian faced off against Evangel Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Falcons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since May 9, 2024.
Haedan Morton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Front Range Christian's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 4-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Morton was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Morton is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Front Range Christian let Landon Deza and Nate McInturff run wild. Deza went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while McInturff went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI McInturff has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jake Dreiling, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Front Range Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Clear Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Front Range Christian, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clear Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Front Range Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Clear Creek might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Front Range Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Golddiggers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
