Jack Britt hasn't had much luck against Cape Fear recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jack Britt Buccaneers will square off against the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Jack Britt had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Seventy-First on Friday. Everything went Jack Britt's way against Seventy-First as Jack Britt made off with a 17-2 victory.
Katelyn Villareal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Jack Britt let Kailey Crenshaw and Lauren McGarry run wild. Crenshaw went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while McGarry went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. The dominant performance gave McGarry a new career-high in triples. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashanthy Marcano, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Jack Britt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Douglas Byrd 24-0. The Colts' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
McKinley Kolasa made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Kolasa was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Amari Adams was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Allie Dawson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Jack Britt has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. Cape Fear's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jack Britt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .426. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've averaged .518. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jack Britt might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Cape Fear in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Jack Britt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
