Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 2 on the offensive boards, a fact the Arvada West Wildcats proved on Friday. They took down Lakewood 45-31. That's another feather in the cap for Arvada West, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arvada West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Saylor Swanson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Malorie Byrne was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Lakewood's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Dyani Parrish, who scored eight points along with five assists and two steals, and Tessa Sanders who scored 11 points.
Lakewood struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Arvada West's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Lakewood, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arvada West will take on Valor Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Valor Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Arvada West likes a good challenge. As for Lakewood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evergreen at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Evergreen is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
