AAAA Region 3A recap Sept. 26, 2012
Liberty County moved up to 192 from 238 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 3A. The Panthers were able to make the jump by beating Cross Creek 42-7.
Wayne County took down Butler 63-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Joshua Mercer was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 127 yards on 12 carries as South Effingham defeated Hephzibah. Teammate Cordaro Leverette added to the ground attack by rushing for 84 yards.
Hagan was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs defeated the Rebels. Hagan tallied five receptions for 72 yards. Ryan McClendon helped South Effingham's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.
JJ Grant put up the best numbers through the air as Liberty County bested the Razorbacks. He finished with four completions for 83 yards and one touchdown. Grant's favorite target this week was Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas, who caught three passes for 71 yards.
The Panthers' Jordan Waters and Caldwell-Fabregas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AAAA Region 3A in both passing and receiving yards. Waters has thrown for 196 yards this season, while Caldwell-Fabregas, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has nine catches for 224 yards. South Effingham's Mercer leads the league in rushing yards with 333.
The Yellow Jackets led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on the Bulldogs.
