Spooner is 2-8 against Cumberland since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rails will take on the Beavers. Spooner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Spooner is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of St. Croix Falls.
Spooner saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Potaczek, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another was Mason Sobralski, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Cumberland never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against Hurley as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The game marked the Beavers' most dominant win of the season.
Cooper Schramski made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cumberland is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-17 otherwise. Schramski was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since May 6th.
In other batting news, Calvin Cunningham was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Tucker Wickstrom was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Cumberland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Cumberland and bumps their season record up to 8-18. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Spooner, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.
Everything went Spooner's way against Cumberland in their previous meeting on May 2nd, as Spooner made off with a 9-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rails since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
