It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holly Hill Academy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 69-22 victory over Laurens Academy at home.
Meanwhile, Wardlaw Academy faced Faith Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Wardlaw Academy took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-8 win over Faith Christian.
Jesse Cleveland was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Colt Bailey, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Wardlaw Academy's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. The heavy lifting was done by Cleveland and Brody Spires who racked up four sacks between them.
Their wins bumped Holly Hill Academy to 10-1 and Wardlaw Academy to 8-3.
Everything came up roses for Holly Hill Academy against Wardlaw Academy when the teams last played back in September of 2021 as the squad secured a 58-0 victory.
