The Republic Tigers extended their postseason success on Friday against the Webb City Cardinals. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Cardinals 21-20. The win was familiar territory for Republic who now have six in a row.
It was another big night for Wyatt Woods, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 90 yards and two touchdowns on only seven passes. Woods has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played.
When it comes to explaining why Webb City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gabe Johnson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 80 yards and a touchdown on only five passes. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Republic's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Webb City, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.
Republic will face off against Cardinal Ritter College Prep at TBD on Friday. Cardinal Ritter College Prep is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Webb City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
