The Caliche Buffaloes will head out to square off against the Wray Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caliche is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Caliche will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Sedgwick County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Buffaloes were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Lions on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Buffaloes needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Blaine Farquhar and Tayten Gerk were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Farquhar didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Gerk tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Farquhar has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Farquhar went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Gerk went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Gerk has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Jett Koester was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caysen Kracht, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Caliche always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sedgwick County only posted an OBP of .188.
Meanwhile, Wray waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Ftng Bulldogs.
Wray saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grady Godsey, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Broderick Kite, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Caliche's record now sits at 6-12. As for Wray, their record is now 12-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Caliche has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wray struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Caliche came out on top in a nail-biter against Wray when the teams last played back in April of 2025, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffaloes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
