4A Region II District 14 recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mt. Pleasant, who took down 82nd ranked Hallsville, 54-49.
Sulphur Springs's Willy Ivery recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Region II District 14 this season in his game against Pine Tree last week. Ivery scampered for 92 yards on the play and finished with 247 on the day as his team beat the Pirates.
Pine Tree's dynamic duo of Caleb Chumley and Victor Hawkins proved tough for Sulphur Springs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Chumley threw for 417 yards and two touchdowns and Hawkins had 203 yards receiving. Mason Hayes helped Pine Tree's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 170 yards.
Sulphur Springs' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Wildcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Brad Macek has thrown for 1873 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Cole Hill has 66 catches for 899 yards. Buddy Ivery leads the league in rushing with 1123 yards.
Greg Owens' team's Macek is within 127 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Marshall.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bobcats take on Texas. At the moment, Hallsville is in third, while the Tigers are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when David Plunk's team takes on Texas. The Bobcats have allowed 220 points this season, while Barry Norton's team has given up 207. Hallsville allowed 54 points last week as it fell to the Tigers.
The Tigers moved up to 423 from 467 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region II District 14. Texas climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Mavericks 20-6.
