After a string of five wins, the Dakota Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Port Huron by a score of 52-49. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Dakota came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Port Huron is ranked 124th).
Dakota lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Samone Andrews, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Andrews is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Brooks-Foster, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Dakota's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Port Huron, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Dakota will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Renaissance at 7:00 p.m. on February 27th. Dakota is coming into the match with six straight losses at home, meaning Renaissance will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
