The Rincon/University Rangers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 71-23 win over Marana. The win was a breath of fresh air for Rincon/University as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rincon/University to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leila O'Dowd, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals. O'Dowd hasn't dropped below 15 points for 14 straight games. Sabrina Wexler was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with two steals and two blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Marana lost, one person who can't be blamed is Haven Garbo. Despite the final result, she scored five points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Garbo grabbed two or more steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Marana struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rincon/University posted 12 assists.
Rincon/University's victory bumped their record up to 12-14. As for Marana, they dropped their record down to 8-17 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rincon/University won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Dorados at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Canyon del Oro has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29. As for Marana, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Mountain Lions at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Wednesday.
