The Okolona Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Wheeler Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Okolona had to suffer through a rough 64-36 loss at the hands of Itawamba Agricultural. Okolona has struggled against Itawamba Agricultural recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Wheeler pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Biggersville by a score of 58-56. Wheeler's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Despite their defeat, Wheeler saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Marley Garrett, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Rebekah Mason was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds.
Okolona's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Wheeler, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Okolona came up short against Wheeler in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 59-51. Can Okolona avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
