Stewarts Creek is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Wilson Central is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Red Hawks will welcome the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stewarts Creek's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Wilson Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Stewarts Creek's victory against Smyrna wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Red Hawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 2-0 shutout last Tuesday. The Red Hawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Stewarts Creek saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaelyn Stembridge, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Wilson Central hadn't beaten Smyrna on the road since April 15, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Wildcats have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Wilson Central also got a great performance from Jordan Hawkins as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Kiley Davis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Adelynn Perry was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple and one run.
Wilson Central has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Stewarts Creek, their win bumped their record up to 22-6-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Stewarts Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Wilson Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Stewarts Creek's way against Wilson Central when the teams last played back in April, as Stewarts Creek made off with an 8-2 victory. Will the Red Hawks repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
