The Miyamura Patriots will be taking part in a tournament against the Chaparral Lobos at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Miyamura is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Miyamura turned things around against Silver on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Fighting Colts.
Felix Lopez and Marshall Livingston did most of the damage at the plate: Lopez scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Livingston scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Lopez also put up a hit, which was his first of the season. Sean Torres was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-3.
Miyamura was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). They never let Cobre get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Lobos have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Carlos Torres made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Chaparral is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Torres was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, two triples, and one run.
In other batting news, Justin Castillo was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Robert Ramos, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Chaparral's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Miyamura, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Miyamura has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
