Catholic Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Wellsville on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-7. Even though they lost, the Crusaders' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Joseph Vranish was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Michael Fabbro made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Matthew Jones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.
Catholic Central is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4. As for Wellsville, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Coming up, Catholic Central will welcome Bishop Rosecrans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wellsville, they will venture away from home to square off against East Palestine at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
