After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ukiah, the Maria Carrillo Pumas were happy to have found some success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-33 victory over Kennedy. Given Maria Carrillo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while Kennedy is ranked 1154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Maria Carrillo to victory were Eli Jamieson and James Hillestad. Jamieson scored 19 points, while Hillestad scored nine points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Nathan Dipman, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Kennedy still got an impressive performance from Tyler Martin, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Scarbrough, who scored seven points.
Maria Carrillo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Kennedy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.
Maria Carrillo is on the road again on Tuesday and play against San Marin at 6:30 p.m. on December 19th. San Marin has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 291 points over their last five matchups. Kennedy will be home for the holidays to greet AIMS College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. AIMS College Prep will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
