After a string of five wins, the Captain Shreve Gators's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Madison Prep Academy. While losing is never fun, Captain Shreve can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Madison Prep Academy is ranked first).
Captain Shreve's loss came despite strong showings from Jyrin Sowell and Aaron Guinn. Sowell scored 14 points, while Guinn scored six points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Lofton, who scored eight points.
Captain Shreve's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Madison Prep Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Captain Shreve will take on Natchitoches Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Natchitoches Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 242 points over their last four contests. As for Madison Prep Academy, they will be playing at home against McKinley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
