The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Cienega Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Salpointe Catholic is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
Salpointe Catholic put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sahuaro 68-37 at home. Given Salpointe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Sahuaro is ranked 56th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salpointe Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taliyah Henderson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Even, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Cienega posted their biggest win since November 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 51-13 victory over Desert View. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Cienega has posted against Desert View since December 5, 2019.
Salpointe Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Cienega, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
Everything came up roses for Salpointe Catholic against Cienega in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 66-39 win. With Salpointe Catholic ahead 49-9 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
