The Franklin Central Flashes will face off against the New Palestine Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Franklin Central is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since May 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Avon 4-2.
Kiley Renick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sarah Miller, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadyn Tinsley, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, New Palestine strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Plainfield with a sharp 10-2 win. Fans of the Dragons have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
New Palestine also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sadey Hughbanks gave up just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Hughbanks.
On the hitting side, Katie Hirschy was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Saydie Miller was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
New Palestine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Franklin Central now has a winning record of 4-3. As for New Palestine, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Franklin Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like New Palestine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Franklin Central skirted past New Palestine 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Do the Flashes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
