The biggest upset of the week belonged to San Benito, who took down 383rd ranked Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, 30-12. Arturo Coronado ran for 184 yards in the win.
Weslaco East was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 5A Region IV District 31. The Wildcats defeated Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 49-14 earlier in the week.
Weslaco East's dynamic duo of BRANDON GUZMAN and TOMMY MALDONADO proved tough for the Bears to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. GUZMAN threw for 121 yards and one touchdown and MALDONADO had 44 yards receiving. BRANDON HERNANDEZ helped Weslaco East's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
Trevor Speights was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 185 yards as McAllen Memorial defeated Pharr-San Juan-Alamo. Teammate Joel Alonzo added to the ground attack by rushing for 96 yards.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's Manny Mancillas and Jaime Borrego have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mancillas has thrown for 719 yards this season, while Borrego has 22 catches for 438 yards. Speights from the Mustangs leads the league in rushing with 603 yards.
Two of the top units in 5A Region IV District 31 will face off this week when the Wildcats take on the Greyhounds. Weslaco East's offense has scored 150 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while San Benito has allowed only 76 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wildcats take on Spencer Gantt's team. Weslaco East is currently in third, while the Greyhounds are in second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on San Benito. Weslaco East has allowed 83 points this season, while the Greyhounds have given up 76. The Wildcats allowed 14 points last week as they bested Mel Rios' team.
McAllen Memorial moved up to 499 from 579 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Bill Littleton's team climbed the ranks as a result of a 32-14 win over the Wolverines.
