Football Recap: Hondo Piles Up the Points Against Lytle

Hondo won the last time they faced Lytle and things went their way on Friday too. The Owls took their game with ease, bagging a 56-27 win over the Pirates. The result was nothing new for the Owls, who have now won four contests by 28 points or more so far this season.

Kolten Alvarez produced another solid performance rushing for 94 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries, while also throwing for 170 yards and one TD on only 15 passes. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 55 yards. A healthy portion of Alvarez's aerial production (84 yards to be exact) went to Cade Aelvoet.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hondo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 204 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Hondo, adding 18 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Layton Pope, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Lytle still got an impressive performance from Toby Davila, who rushed for 104 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also threw for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Weston Jackson, who rushed for 60 yards and one TD on only six carries.

Hondo's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Lytle, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Looking ahead, Hondo will head out on the road to square off against Crystal City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lytle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cole at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
