The Heritage Eagles will challenge the Broomfield Bald Eagle at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
Heritage fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Fruita Monument on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 4-1 to the Wildcats.
Carson Davies was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Heritage saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Kellogg, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Broomfield came out on top against Rocky Mountain on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Bald Eagle took their contest against the Lobos 7-2. The game was the first time the Bald Eagle have beaten the Lobos on their field since May 26, 2017.
James Varela looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Broomfield is undefeated when Varela allows two or fewer earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, JR Ramsey was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Shepherd, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Broomfield's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Heritage has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Broomfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
