Wiregrass has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Evangel Christian Lightning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Wiregrass will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Evangel Christian is ranked 94th).
Wiregrass suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They were the victim of a tough 69-47 loss at the hands of Tuscaloosa Home Educators.
Despite their defeat, Wiregrass saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Riley Treadaway, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Treadaway, who scored 15 points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Evangel Christian gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Edgewood Academy 60-26 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Evangel Christian has posted since December 18, 2023.
The match pitted two dominant players against one another in Owen Bugnar and Johnny Groves. Bugnar had a solid game and scored nine points. Meanwhile, Groves did his best for the losing side, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Wiregrass has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season. As for Evangel Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Wiregrass hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 57.1 points per game. However, it's not like Evangel Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 62.1 points per game. The only thing between Wiregrass and another offensive beatdown is Evangel Christian. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Wiregrass was able to grind out a solid victory over Evangel Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 64-56. Does Wiregrass have another victory up their sleeve, or will Evangel Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
