Whitehall extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 2-11. They came up short against the Independence/Gilmanton Indees, falling 12-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indees this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-2 back in April.
Whitehall saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Poeschel, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Brynna Schneider also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
As for Independence/Gilmanton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Independence/Gilmanton's side, Nora Schank was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Schank has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harper Symicek, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Hannah Ekern was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Whitehall will head out on the road to square off against Melrose-Mindoro at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Independence/Gilmanton, they will be playing at home against Eleva-Strum at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Indees surely won't give up without a fight.
