The Williamsburg Blue Pirates will face off against the Curwensville Golden Tide at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Williamsburg will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Williamsburg barely beat Moshannon Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Pirates blew past the Black Knights/Damsels 9-2 on Tuesday. The Blue Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
William Lower made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Konner Harker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Clark, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Williamsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Curwensville suffered their closest loss since April 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Juniata Valley by a score of 8-6. The Golden Tide have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Logan Kunkle was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Williamsburg pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Curwensville, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Williamsburg couldn't quite finish off Curwensville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Blue Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
