The Silverado Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Granite Hills Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Silverado is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Victor Valley on Friday as they made off with a 27-6 victory. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Jackrabbits recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Aryhana Shyne, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. What's more, she posted five RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Aleenah Aldana also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Silverado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .756. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills hadn't done well against Barstow recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Aztecs with a sharp 12-2 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Kathryn (Kat) McCartney spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Granite Hills got a massive performance out of Mylie Shepard, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Shepard has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. MacKinzie Gomez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Granite Hills' record is now 8-5. As for Silverado, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Everything went Silverado's way against Granite Hills in their previous matchup back in March, as Silverado made off with a 13-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
