After flying high against the Onaga Buffaloes last Monday, the Troy Trojans came back down to earth. Troy fell 60-51 to Axtell on Wednesday. Troy has not had much luck with Axtell recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Troy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Henry Geiger, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Geiger continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Gannon Bowe was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Troy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Axtell, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Troy will square off against Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy is ranked 187th, while Troy is ranked 179th). Axtell won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Clifton-Clyde on January 18th. Clifton-Clyde will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
