Poston Butte has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Canyon del Oro Dorados at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Poston Butte has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 171 points over their last three matchups.
Poston Butte can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-12 win over Marcos de Niza at home. With Poston Butte ahead 28-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Poston Butte's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Whitman, who rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.3 yards per carry. Whitman's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Mason Lloyd, who rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 21-9 win over Walden Grove.
Kayden Luke was his usual excellent self, rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Canyon del Oro's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 8.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Evan Greer and Grant Young who racked up five sacks between them.
Poston Butte's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Canyon del Oro, they have yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 10-0 record.
Thursday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Poston Butte has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 304.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Canyon del Oro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 248.5 per game. It's looking like Thursday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches. Poston Butte was able to grind out a solid victory over Canyon del Oro in their previous matchup back in September of 2021, winning 34-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poston Butte since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
