The Gayville-Volin Raiders were the 47-35 winner over the Bridgewater/Emery Huskies when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Gayville-Volin fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 49-47.
Gayville-Volin's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Taylor Hoxeng and Maia Achen. Hoxeng scored 21 points, while Achen almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 44.7% of Gayville-Volin's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliza Westrum, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Gayville-Volin's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Bridgewater/Emery, their victory ended a 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-10.
Gayville-Volin will head out on the road to challenge the at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeman Academy/Marion has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Bridgewater/Emery, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Indians at 6:15 p.m. Flandreau Indian is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
