The Gering Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 66-50 to Crete. Gering found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up eight fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Gering saw an underclassman step up: Jacelyn Brown scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Makenzie Todd was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Amelia Hohlen was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with five steals for Crete. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Camry Draeger, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Gering bumped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Crete, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Gering won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Waverly at 11:00 a.m. on January 6th. Waverly is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54 points per game. Crete won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Scottsbluff on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Scottsbluff is ranked 82nd, while Crete is ranked 72nd).
