Conneaut is 9-1 against the Fighting Herald since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Conneaut Spartans' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the St. John Fighting Herald at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Hopefully Conneaut focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
On Saturday, Conneaut was the victim of a tough 55-32 loss at the hands of the Blue Streaks. While losing is never fun, Conneaut can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while the Blue Streaks are ranked 150th).
Despite the defeat, Conneaut got a solid performance out of Finley Evans, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Evans has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Kiser, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. John waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Maplewood by a score of 60-48.
St. John's success was spearheaded by the efforts of alyssa cevera, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds, and Mickey Zheng, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 assists. That makes it eight consecutive games in which cevera has scored at least a third of St. John's points. gracie disalvatore was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Conneaut's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for St. John, they pushed their record up to 8-9 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Conneaut have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. John struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Conneaut against the Fighting Herald in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 63-36 win. Will Conneaut repeat their success, or do the Fighting Herald have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
