The Silver Stage Nighthawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Battle Mountain at home and fell 47-6. If Silver Stage was looking for revenge after losing 38-10 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Battle Mountain's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jenna Chopp, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Chopp has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Bleak, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Silver Stage's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.6 points per game. As for Battle Mountain, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Silver Stage will take on the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pershing County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Nighthawks in Nevada (the Mustangs are ranked 19th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 101st). As for Battle Mountain, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Falcons at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Sierra Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
