The River Forest Ingots will head out to challenge the Glenn Falcons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. River Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, River Forest was able to grind out a solid victory over Marquette Catholic, taking the game 7-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ingots.
Ellis Gorham was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Johnny Brock also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Glenn came out on top against Bremen on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run third inning. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Lions. The Falcons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brendin Hodges was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Glenn is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-3 otherwise. Hodges was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Glenn got a big performance out of Gabe Goodsell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Kaden Lang was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Glenn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
River Forest pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Glenn, their record is now 2-4.
River Forest's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Ingots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Glenn, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will River Forest continue to outrun the ball?
River Forest suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Glenn in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Can the Ingots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
